Thermal transfer labels use thermal ribbons to print the information onto the label, while direct thermal labels do not use a ribbon.  Direct thermal labels are made of a material with a special coating which turns black when heat activated by the print head.  Both printing methods have advantages and disadvantages, please contact one of our representatives to discuss the best option for your printing needs.
